Lifestyle and cardiometabolic risk: an update
By The International Chair on Cardiometabolic Risk [10:35 min.] [151MB]
Drs Després, Krauss, Wareham and Ross discuss issues related to features of a healthy lifestyle relevant to the assessment and management of cardiometabolic risk. Dr. Krauss emphasizes the need to move from a technical discussion on the macronutrient composition of the diet to indices reflecting diet quality. Dr. Wareham summarizes recent developments on approaches/methods to assess physical activity and underlines the fact that when the time comes to select a tool to estimate physical activity, the instrument should fit the purpose. Dr. Wareham also discusses how changing lifestyle habits could help manage the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Finally, Dr. Ross comments on the distinction to be made between efficacy and effectiveness trials.
